Chess Tournament Results

Top seed Musa Simutowe from Zambia won the inaugoral BMI Lesotho Open with a final score of 6/7 to pocket the ZAR 4,000 first prize. A final round draw against Malusi Lekalakalae was enough to secure him the winners cheque after he dominated the first 6 rounds of the tournament.

Malusi tied with Themba Nene for second place on 5.5/7 ahead of Mpya Tshediso and Wanda Khanyile who tied for 4th place on 5/7. Klaas Tokelo ended as the top player from Lesotho after a fine win in the last round against Alfred Pesa.

In the Open section, Khotso Motlomelo was the proud winner of the ZAR 1,500 first prize whilst Lebohang Sefalane ended as the top placed under 18 and Maboloko Leboela won the ladies section!

From a ratings perspective, Latela Kananelo was the big winner as his scored impressive wins over Vincent Masole from Botswana, Tokelo Klaas from Lesotho and Clive Mthunzi from RSA to walk away with a gain of 82 FIDE rating points from the event. Malusi Lekalakalae and Wanda Khanyile also recorded rating gains in excess of 50+ points!
